How to Use the Standard Wall Panelling Calculator

Our calculator simplifies the process of determining how many wall panels you'll need. Follow these steps for accurate results:

  1. Select Panel Size: Choose from pre-configured sizes or select 'Custom Size' to enter your own dimensions.
  2. Input Wall Dimensions: Enter the width and height of the wall you wish to panel in millimetres.
  3. Account for Obstructions: Obstructions are areas like windows and doors where panelling isn't required. Click 'Add Obstruction' to enter their dimensions. The calculator will subtract these areas from the total wall area.
  4. Calculate: Once all measurements are entered, click 'Calculate'. The calculator works by dividing the total wall area (minus any obstructions) by the area of one panel to determine how many panels are needed.

Pro Tip: Consider panel overlap and pattern matching, which might affect the total number of panels required. Always round up to the nearest whole number to ensure full coverage.

How to Measure Your Wall for Panelling

Accurate measurements are crucial for successful wall panelling. Follow these steps to ensure precision:

  1. Gather Tools: You'll need a tape measure and a stable ladder for higher walls.
  2. Determine Start Points: For walls with skirting boards, measure from the top of the skirting to the ceiling. In bathrooms, measure from floor to ceiling if panelling around a shower or bath area.
  3. Measure Wall Width and Height: Take measurements at both the top and bottom of the wall for width, and at both ends for height. Use the smaller measurements for areas with discrepancies to ensure a snug fit.
  4. Account for Obstructions: Measure the height and width of windows, doors, and any fixtures. Subtract their total area from the wall size.
  5. Multiple Walls: If panelling multiple walls, measure each wall separately as they may have different dimensions.
  6. Record Accurately: Note down each measurement precisely and double-check for accuracy.
  7. Calculate: Input all measurements into our calculator above to determine the number of panels needed.

Pro Tip: Some walls are uneven and can be taller on either end or wider at the top or bottom. Measure at multiple points for the most accurate results!
